The “Local Rule” on the 9th hole Back to the GTCC
Men’s Golf League homepage I’d like to clarify what is known as a “local rule” on the 9th hole. If you happen to hit your drive on #9 over the fence to the right of the green…and your lie sees the fence directly in front of you for your chip shot…you get relief from the fence by drawing an arc around your ball no closer to the hole. You can take a free drop on either side of the fence, then play it as it lies. If you hit the fence after taking your drop, same rule applies on the next shot. The Pinsak file does suggest free relief, but the exact details on how to play the shot were not documented anywhere other than Talik’s head (until now). So thanks for helping clarify that one Talik. The same rules would apply to the fence posts behind the #5 green, and to the left of the #6 and #7 holes (draw an arc no closer to the hole, take your free drop, and swing away).
